About Us
6 proud generations of farming in the lush New England Tablelands.
The Eaglehawk Farms Beef story starts as far back as 1832 when the Vivers family settled the lush Kings Plains Valley between Inverell and Glen Innes. Ian Vivers and his family are direct descendants of these early sheep and cattle farmers and run three properties in the Kings Plains Valley.
Together, they continue to raise what is arguably the finest Angus beef available by adhering to their philosophy of raising cattle humanely and responsibly in a sustainable way. In doing so they ensure the very best eating experience possible.
Why Angus cattle?
Our climate and land is ideal for producing the world-renowned Angus cattle. They thrive amid the native and exotic pastures we grow here.
Time-honored traditions, Modern-day success.
Raised in the clean and safe pastures of the New England, the Eaglehawk Farms herd of Angus cattle flourish amid optimum cattle raising conditions, with an abundance of water, grass and feed.
Family Values.
We believe that a family run company that is being supplied by family farmers focuses on values rather than profits. We don’t answer to stockholders who demand profits above all else.
At Eaglehawk Angus Farms, we reinvest profits in the land, our animals and people. The plural in Eaglehawk Farms is to encompass co-operator herds who help us to supply our premium Angus cattle.
Teamwork and integration.
Many of our co-operators choose to buy Eaglehawk Angus bulls from us and breed and raise pure Eaglehawk Angus calves. We purchase animals back at a young age to ensure the finishing program of each animal is consistent. This is important for the tenderness and taste of our beef.
Our co-operator farms are family run and are focused on the same strict quality guidelines and values as we are. That’s why they purchase Eaglehawk Angus Bulls. New clients who wish to sell us their cattle are always keen to adapt to the required guidelines to keep our beef a premium product.
Enhanced flavour, tenderness and juiciness.
It’s not only the breeding that gives Eaglehawk Angus beef – it’s the melt-in-your-mouth tenderness and flavour. Our steaks, roasts, gourmet sausages and minced beef are the result of special care and feeding. We have designed our systems to produce a singular taste experience.
Eaglehawk Farm cattle are fed a unique natural diet and are allowed to range freely on pastures. They are not hurried to finishing weight like in most modern feeding systems. This ensures contented cattle and when grass is low they are never hungry. We take great pride in the unique nutrition program that we provide for the cattle to balance their free range diet and keep them in top health throughout the seasons.
This also means we are able to supply a consistent and tender product year round. We grow our own corn and grains in the summer months on our rich black fertile flats and this forms a major portion of their diet. We also age all of our beef for 14 to 21 days. This gives the beef a distinct and healthy full bodied New England flavour.
The best possible results.
While a product such as ours takes more time, energy, money and care to grow than your average beef the benefit is a beef product that is exceptional quality and is safe and healthy for your family.
Clean, green and traceable.
We have strict guidelines for our beef. No growth promotants (hormones), steroids or antibiotics are used. If antibiotics are needed the animal is treated and is not eligible for the Eaglehawk Farms Angus Beef Label. Any animal, for whatever reason, that doesn’t meet our strict criteria is not sold as Eaglehawk Farms beef.
All cattle are traceable back to the individual farm they were born on. They have an electronic tag which enables us to know and trace its full history.
We use a Government accredited and monitored processing facility with clear health and safety procedures to ensure the highest standard of safe meat handling and care. Our master butcher oversees the ageing and slicing at our Foodsafe accredited facility in Glen Innes and then it is sent out to the world to enjoy.
